To narrow down the best online program to help you reach your goals, consider resources such as Best-Universities.net to easily compare your options.

Colleges & Universities

One common misconception is that colleges are smaller than universities, but, in fact, the size of the school does not determine whether an institution is considered a college or university.

Colleges and universities both offer a range of associate and bachelor’s degree programs; universities also offer graduate programs. Whereas a university will offer a large selection of programs from which to choose, colleges can narrow the focus to as little as one area of study. For example, if you wish to attend a liberal arts college you will likely not be offered classes in business or engineering.

Attending a large college or university has its benefits. Typically colleges and universities boast well-funded sports programs, advanced research facilities, and more extracurricular options, which can make for a more well-rounded experience. However, with large colleges and universities, you can expect high tuition rates and less personalized learning experiences.

Most colleges and universities will offer online classes, but these online options may be limited and cannot guarantee access to all classes needed to complete a degree. So, while you may be able to take advantage of the flexibility that comes with online classes, you may still need to supplement with in-person learning.

Community College

Community colleges are a great option if your goal is to find affordable higher education. Compared to large colleges and universities, community colleges come at a much lower price tag. In addition to saving money, students often enjoy the benefit of smaller class sizes, which makes it easier to get to know your professors and other students.

Community colleges may have fewer programs from which to choose so you may find it more difficult to find the program you want. Fortunately, though, community college credits are most often able to transfer so if you can choose to start at a community college for your introductory classes and then transfer to a larger college or university to finish the remainder of your degree.

Similar to large colleges and universities, community colleges typically offer online classes, but the availability of classes may be limited.

No matter where you are in life or what you wish to pursue, you can be assured that there is a school or program that can meet your needs.
